Bill Moseley really wants to play Chop Top again

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Other than his role as Otis B. Driftwood in writer-director Rob Zombie's Firefly Family films HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, and the forthcoming THREE FROM HELL, Bill Mosely is perhaps best known for his role as the deranged steel-plate sportin' psychopath Chop Top in director Tobe Hooper's THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2.

And today we're hearing from Moseley himself that he still wants to play the lovable maniac again in a future TCM motion picture.

Moseley says:

Well, always Chop Top, absolutely, from Chainsaw 2. I would love to have done that character, I came close when I did Texas Chainsaw 3D a couple of years ago. I got the call from the producer of that movie saying we want you to play Drayton Sawyer. And I'm just thinking, 'Well that's like asking Moe to come back and play Curly. Or Curly to come back and play Moe, I guess is more accurate.

What I was told was that Chop Top is owned by a different company, because it's Chainsaw 2. [The original] is owned by Sony Pictures and Drayton was part of what they had. They had the rights to the original Chainsaw, not Chainsaw 2. So, new character, they didn't have the rights to it, but they did have the rights to Drayton.

He added:

I was glad I was actually asked to play Drayton because I love Jim Siedow so much. So that all worked out. But I would still love to do another Chop Top, but I just don't know, in the Byzantine world of rights and who owns what, I don't know if that would ever happen.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 centered on:

Chainsaw-wielding maniac Leatherface (Bill Johnson) is up to his cannibalistic ways once again, along with the rest of his twisted clan, including the equally disturbed Chop-Top (Bill Moseley). This time, the masked killer has set his sights on pretty disc jockey Vanita "Stretch" Brock (Caroline Williams), who teams up with Texas lawman Lefty Enright (Dennis Hopper) to battle the psychopath and his family deep within their lair, a macabre abandoned amusement park.

Tobe Hooper returned to direct THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 from a screenplay written by L. M. Kit Carson. Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus produced the sequel which starred Dennis Hopper, Caroline Williams, Jim Siedow, Bill Johnson as Leatherface, and Bill Moseley as "Chop Top" Sawyer. Cannon Releasing unleashed the film into theaters back on August 22, 1986. Buy it on Blu-ray HERE.
