The filmmaker, who’s returning for the sequel as a producer, promises more suitable footwear for Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) in a playful tweet about Jurassic World 2. “See you soon, [Bryce Dallas Howard],” he wrote alongside a collage of women’s boots. While Jurassic World was Universal’s highest-grossing film of 2015 and the second highest-grossing film in America at the time, many were quick to point out Claire spent the entire time running away from dinosaurs in heels. The chatter was so loud that even some of the cast and crew addressed it. During an interview with io9, Trevorrow said Howard “insisted on wearing those heels.” He explained, “They meant something to her personally. She felt like, this is her talking, that those heels were her shield in a certain way as a woman. That’s just how she felt.” Howard later told Collider how “surprised” she was by the backlash and defended the sartorial choice by saying Claire “never intended to go into the jungle” period, let alone in heels.
