Cameron Diaz comes out of retirement in new Back in Action footage

Diaz and Jamie Foxx play ex-CIA agents who, fittingly, come out of retirement in Netflix's new action-comedy.

Cameron Diaz is back in action in, well, Back in Action.

The Charlie’s Angels star announced her retirement from acting in 2018, but she has finally returned to screens in Netflix’s forthcoming action comedy, which debuted footage in a sizzle reel today. It marks Diaz’s first movie since 2014’s Annie

Jamie Foxx, who previously costarred with Diaz in Any Given Sunday and Annie, will also appear in the project. They star as Emily and Matt, a pair of former spies who abandon their CIA careers to start a family together — until their cover is blown, forcing them back into the world of espionage.

“What if Mom and Dad are criminals?” their daughter, played by McKenna Roberts, asks at the beginning of the footage.

After a brief shot of the duo’s CIA profiles on a tablet, we see a glimpse of Emily leaping from one moving speedboat to another and punching an enemy, followed by footage of Matt knocking out a baddie with a gasoline pump and Diaz slamming someone’s head into a car. “She’s fine, it’s not that bad,” Diaz’s character assures her kids.

Diaz previously shut down rumors of Foxx’s alleged difficulty on set. "I really hate all of the things that were being said about our set at the time,” she said. “You just want to scream at the top of your lungs, like, ‘What are you talking about?’"

“Jamie is the best,” she continued. “I love that guy so much. He’s such a special person and he’s so talented, so much fun… the hiccups that happened throughout production are the natural kinds of things that happen.

In fact, Diaz even cited Foxx as the primary reason she un-retired in her Instagram story when Back in Action was first announced. "Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action!!!" she wrote. "I can't frickin wait. It's gonna be a blast!"

Back in Action will debut on Netflix this year. Watch the full sizzle reel above.
