SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — It was named Yelp’s top bakery in the United States in 2022 and runner up in 2023. The downtown San Diego gem, IZOLA Bakery, has been closed since October and will remain closed a little while longer as the owners are now looking for a new location.

The bakery’s owners posted on their blog this week they have run into several challenges in the 100-year-old building they have been operating out of, on 13th Street in downtown San Diego.

IZOLA closed in October 2023 for kitchen renovations and was scheduled to reopen in January, but things have since changed and new 2024 requirements, including the need to increase the structural captivity to their dining room, is forcing the bakery to move, according to the bakery’s blog post.

Known for its Instagram worthy warm croissants and sourdough, IZOLA in the East Village has been a staple as one of San Diego’s most popular bakeries.

IZOLA’s owners say they are currently searching for buildings to house their bakery with some specific characteristics like it must be available now, have a valid heath permit, restaurant kitchen space, space for their production and bake shop and more. What’s more, the bakery is kindly offering a year worth of free croissants to the person that connects them to their new home. Happy hunting!
