I decided to write about two of my all time favorite fashion photographers Mert and Marcus for this analysis. Mert Alas, born in Turkey and Marcus Piggott, born in Wales, are separate photographers who often collaborate together to capture some of the best photos we see in many fashion magazines out on newsstands and online today. A list of publications and brands they have worked for are: Vogue USA, Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris, Interview Magazine, The Love Magazine, W Magazine, Pop Magazine, Numero, Arena Homme Plus, and Dazed and Confused, which was their first cover. As for fashion brands, they have also worked for a wide range including Dior, Louis Vuitton, Missoni, Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Fendi, Kenzo and Miu Miu, only to name a few.

In their work, I realize that Mert and Marcus play with vibrant color, light, and contrasting shadows as recurring elements, which is why the photos are easy to catch the viewer’s attention. The photos are always super sharp and really clear.

(From first to last): Giorgio Armani, Missoni, Kenzo, Roberto Cavalli, Dior, and Miu Miu. All shot by Mert and Marcus.

As for their famous works, Mert and Marcus made a buzz when they shot a new and improved Taylor Swift for Vogue USA in May 2016.
