Fertilize caladiums growing in containers every two weeks with a soluble liquid fertilizer to promote strong foliage growth, such as Miracle-Gro® Liquid All Purpose (8-7-6).
Like most plants, caladiums grow best in fertile, well drained soil. You can improve the texture and fertility of your soil by adding compost or top soil at planting time.
Prune dead or decaying leaves from caladium plants by snipping off the stems at the soil line. You can also remove caladium flower buds as they start to appear. You can also prune off dead foliage after the plant dies back and you've removed the corms from the ground or potting mix.
Maintain temperature above 70°F even at night. For best results, water should also be 60-70°F, keep evenly moist at all times. Moderate light levels are optimal and no fertilizer necessary.
Caladium Strawberry Star is a compact bunching plant and is suitable for any bright room. There are many varieties within the Caladium family, all very attractive. The Strawberry Star is a special variety of Caladium which is characterised by its strawberry-coloured dots on pale-green (almost white) large leaves and prominent dark green veins. Their leaves are paper-thin and illuminate when they catch the sunlight.
