Cameron Diaz is ‘actually retired’ from acting

“Charlie’s Angels” actress Cameron Diaz has confirmed the rumors that she is retired from acting.

On Thursday, Diaz reunited with her former cast members from the 2002 romantic comedy “The Sweetest Thing,” Selma Blair and Christina Applegate, for an Entertainment Weekly interview.

While chatting with the outlet, the former castmates realized that they had not hung out together since the making of the ’00s flick.

“Why not?” Diaz asked Blair and Applegate when pressed about why they hadn’t got together since shooting their film. Then, after suggesting that the three get together more often, Diaz said, “I mean, I’m down. I’m literally doing nothing.”

“I’m literally doing nothing, too!” Applegate chimed in. “I’m semi-retired, I haven’t worked for years. I’m a mom, that’s what we do. So I’m around, man.”

Diaz agreed with Applegate and added, “That’s so awesome. I’m totally down. I’m semi-retired, too, and I am actually retired, so I would love to see you ladies.”

Rumors that Diaz had retired from her filmmaking days began earlier in the month when Blair said in an interview with Metro News UK that the 45-year-old actress had chosen to retire. The “Cruel Intentions” actress recalled a chat about retirement with Diaz to the outlet and said, “I had lunch with Cameron the other day. We were reminiscing about [‘The Sweetest Thing’]. I would have liked to do a sequel but Cameron’s retired from acting. She’s like ‘I’m done.’”

Blair’s revelation sparked a social media frenzy, with fans wondering whether or not Diaz had truly retired from acting.

Not knowing that her “joke” would become such a hot topic, immediately following the interview, Blair took to Twitter to clear the air about her comments and said, “BREAKING NEWS. Guys please, I was making a joke in an interview. CAMERON DIAZ is NOT retiring from ANYTHING.”

She then added, jokingly: “And for more breaking news: I am NOW retiring from being Cameron Diaz’s spokesperson.”

Diaz broke out onto the scene at the age of 22 in the 1994 comedy “The Mask,” starring Jim Carrey. Some of her most notable films include “Charlie’s Angels,” “The Holiday” and “Shrek.” Diaz has not starred in a film since 2014, when she played Miss Hannigan in the “Annie” remake and starred alongside Kate Upton and Leslie Mann in “The Other Woman.”

Diaz has been married to Good Charlotte band member Benji Madden since 2015.
