Maurits Cornelis Escher was a Dutch graphic artist known for his woodcuts, lithographs and mezzotints, and was famous for his impossible constructions, regular filling of the plane, explorations of infinity and metamorphoses. He was able to generate optical illusions by representing three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional plane, and he used four types of geometric transformations in his works. His Lithograph Drawing Hands, created in 1948, is an impressive study in the use of lines and contrast, and is thought-provoking as it depicts a paradoxical act of two hands drawing each other.
