Description

I picked up this Mercedes v12 engine after it had been ran dry on oil.
After stripping it down to a completely bare block I was surprised at just how light it was.
I didn’t want to build a generic engine block table with this so decided to try something new.
I decided on make something unique and fabricated a frame that mimics an engine crane.
The finished piece was just how I imagined it.
I found myself stuck though. I had used some repurposed 50×50 metal fence frame to build the base which had previously been painted blue. Id removed all the paint with a polycarbonate grinding disc prior to welding so the finish was a bare metal. I had always planned on painting after completion but it looked great. I kept asking myself if I should actually paint it. I decided to paint it and if the finished piece wasn’t as good as I hoped I could always strip it back to the bare metal. I’m glad this was direction I followed, after being painted in a gun metal grey it looked even better.
The next step was to sandblast the block, I was new to sandblasting so this took some time, not to mention the tight space in my blast cabinet with such a long engine block.
After finishing I gave the block the few coats of lacquer which helped bring out the perfect finish.
This table has been one of my most enjoyable builds and will standout in any environment.

Its finished measurements are L-1400mm/ W-700mm/ H-457mm
