About this Item
The first Faber and Faber edition of this T.S Eliot poetry collection. Signed by Eliot to the title page, this work is in the original dustwrapper and remains in a smart condition. This poetry collection was originally issued by Penguin Books in 1948 and this is the first edition published by Faber and Faber. The collection includes the incredibly important modernist poem 'The Waste Land'. This poem is regarded as central to the modernist movement and following its first appearance in 'The Criterion' was published in book form. It follows the legend of the Holy Grail and Fisher King. This anthology opens with 'The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock' which is regarded as a masterpiece of the Modernist movement. It was this poem that gave Eliot widespread attention. Other poems to this collection include 'Portrait of a Lady', 'Ash Wednesday', 'Whispers of Immortality' and 'Rhapsody on a Winy Night'. T S Eliot is regarded as one of the twentieth century's major poets and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948 for his 'outstanding pioneer contribution to present-day poetry'.
