About this item

  • Black Cherry Tomato Tomato Seeds, Heirloom NON-GMO, Low Acid, Indeterminate, Open-Pollinated, Candy Sweet, Productive, 65-70 Days.
  • Keep moist, not letting the seeds dry out between watering. **SOIL Temperature for Germination: 70-75F. Planting Depth: 1/4". Sprout tomato seeds in small containers, preferably 4" or smaller. In-ground germination is not recommended. Use a standard potting mix that is well drained.
  • Start seeds in containers approximately 8 weeks prior to the planned set-out date. Plants should ultimately be transplanted to the garden 1-2 weeks after the expected date of last frost. Soil should be kept consistently warm, from 70-85F. Cool soils, below about 60-65F, even just at night, will significantly delay or inhibit germination. Additionally, overly warm soils, well above 90F, can inhibit germination and provide ideal conditions for seed rot.
  • Over watering can cause fungal growth which leads to seed rot. Excess water can also bury seeds deep in the soil where they will not be able break the surface. Water when the soil surface just begins to dry.
  • Multiple seeds can be planted in a single starter container, but should be thinned once seedlings appear so only a single plant remains. Seeds do not require light for germination but some light source should be provided for seedlings once they emerge from the soil.

Product Description

Oh be careful! This tiny wonder is totally addicting. Once you grow them, you'll never want your garden to be without at least one of these glorious plants. The only truly black cherry tomato. Black Cherry tomato seeds produce large, sprawling, indeterminate, regular-leaf, vigorous tomato plants that yield abundant crops in huge clusters of 1", round, deep purple, mahogany-brown cherry tomatoes. Fruits are irresistibly delicious with sweet, rich, complex, full tomato flavors that burst in your mouth, characteristic of the best flavorful black tomatoes. Beautiful to mix with other colored cherry tomatoes. Unique tomato variety. It is very very productive. Support it well, as the fruit is heavy and the vines can get quite long. Disease resistant. Once you try it...you want MORE. 65-70 Days. Height At Maturity: 5-7'. HOW TO GROW: Once a few true leaves have developed, seedlings should be slowly moved outside (if sprouted indoors) to ambient light. Care should be taken not to expose seedlings to direct, scorching sun so plants may need to be hardened off via slow sun exposure. Hardening off can be done using a shaded or filtered light location, as well as protection from strong winds, rain or low humidity. Hardening off time varies, but can take 5-10 days. *** **SOIL Temperature for Germination: 70F **Plant Spacing: 24", **Hardiness: Zones 4-11 **Sun Requirement: Full Sun, **Days to Germination: 7-14 days under optimal conditions, **Germination Rate: 95%

Out of all the cherry tomato varieties I planted in 2023, these took the longest to ripen both on and off the vine. But it grew large plants with appropriate yield and the coloring and size are as described.

These tomatoes are hard to come by. I decided to order these and it was well worth the wait. Next year I’m growing as many as I possibly can. If you like Sungold tomatoes, you’ll love these.

I am an experienced gardener who grew plenty of diverse plants from seeds over the years. I have planted 16 of these Black Cherry tomato seeds but only 2 germinated. Compared to my other cherry tomato plants, these two seedlings are very weak and I do not expect them to survive. It is obvious that seeds are not viable, very likely old or they were not stored properly. Do not trust this seller. All the negative reviews are valid.
Update: customer service non-existent.

I decided to order these seeds since the ones from the hardware store became diseased and died. Some suggested changing my soil and starting over. I decided to not change the soil and try these seeds. So fair they are growing very well, nice healthy plants. They have not produced any tomatoes yet so I can't comment on that yet.
