Aliens have landed! Eerie close-up photos of JUMPING spiders look like creatures from another planet with huge bulging eyes

These close-up shots of jumping spiders may make you think twice before you reach for that glass and coaster.

These eerily intimate shots, largely of the arachnid's psychedelic eyes, make them look more like an alien species than a creature here on earth.

Photographer Javier Rupérez used macro-photography techniques to create the other-worldly images of the spiders in his home town of Almáchar, Spain.

The jumping spider family makes up 13 per cent of all spider species and has some of the best vision among all invertebrates, as well as the ability to jump while hunting or to evade threats.

Mr Rupérez, 56, spent hours taking hundreds of pictures of the spiders in order to create the macro images, with the subsequent computer processing on the pictures often taking several days.

He said: 'Jumping spiders are generally recognised by their eye pattern. All jumping spiders have four pairs of eyes.

'The eyes of the spiders are particularly impressive when viewed from very close. Viewed so closely, they look like beings from another planet.'

Mr Rupérez's unique pictures allowed him to get up close to the creatures, creating pictures that will be the stuff of nightmares for arachnophobes.

In order to create the impressive effects in his images, Mr Rupérez took hundreds of photos, moving the camera a microscopically short distance each time, before processing the images with computer software.

He said: 'When I saw the first photograph of the eyes of a spider jumping at a high magnification, I knew that I should devote myself to doing extreme macro photography.

'I just concentrate on doing a good job and I try to get photographs that are shocking to everyone who looks at them.'
