Rhona Mitra has won the female lead role in TNT drama pilot The Last Ship.

The dystopian drama - based on the novel by William Brinkley - will star Grey's Anatomy's Eric Dane as the captain of a naval destroyer who is caught in the middle of a nuclear war.

Mitra will play Rachel Scott, a scientist who specialises in the study of infectious diseases, Deadline reports.

The actress recently starred on Sky1 / Cinemax action series Strike Back and previously appeared on both ABC's Boston Legal and FX's Nip/Tuck.

She has also appeared on Stargate Universe and The Gates, while her film credits include 2007's The Number 23 opposite Jim Carrey and 2008's Doomsday.

Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) will direct the Last Ship pilot, written by Hank Steinberg and Steve Kane.

Michaela McManus (Awake, The Vampire Diaries), Travis Van Winkle (90210) and Sam Spruell (Snow White and the Huntsman) will also star in the drama, which is executive produced by Michael Bay.
