Populus tremula 'erecta' - QUICK ID
I love these trees. Like the Serbian Spruce, often times you need to find a narrow tree for a narrow location. These Swedish Aspen certainly 'fit the bill'. They look great arranged together or on their own. In my experience, as long as you water them properly, they will thrive even in full sunshine, good soil, not so good soil, against a building, on their own. You can ID them by the following:
- Easily grows to 15 meters with up to a 3 meter spread. The trick is to prune them back on a regular basis to keep the form narrow.
- In the autumn you will see a range of colours from yellow to red to gold making this a real show piece at the end of the season.
- The leaves look similar to other poplars.
- This cultivar consists only of male clones so you will not get the messy cotton fluff produced by other Populus during the summer.
