Geoffrey Lewis dead: Juliette Lewis' father, actor in Clint Eastwood movies dies at 79

Character actor Geoffrey Lewis has died at the age of 79, according to multiple reports.

A family friend told Variety that Lewis, the father of Oscar-nominated actress Juliette Lewis, passed away of natural causes Tuesday in Woodland Hills, Calif. No other details were available.

Lewis may be best known for appearing in Clint Eastwood movies, including "High Plains Drifter," "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot," "Pink Cadillac" and "Midnight in the Garden of Evil." He also played Eastwood's friend Orville Boggs in "Every Which Way But Loose" and its "Any Which Way You Can."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lewis' more than 210 film and television credits also included roles in "Dillinger," "The Lawnmower Man," "The Devil's Rejects," "The Man Without a Face," "Heaven's Gate," "The New Guy," "Lucky Lady" and "The Great Waldo Pepper."

He was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing bartender Earl Tucker in the '80s TV show "Flo," a spinoff of the sitcom "Alice." He also appeared on "Falcon Crest," "Barnaby Jones," "Hawaii Five-O," "Little House on the Prairie" and "Murder She Wrote."

Variety reports Lewis is survived by his wife Paula Hochhalter and 10 children, including Juliette Lewis, who starred in "Cape Fear," "Natural Born Killers," "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" and "Old School."
