Who is Russell Brand's mother Barbara?
Barbara is the mother of actor and comedian Russell Brand, and grandmother to his children, whom he shares with his wife, Laura Gallacher.
Barbara married Russell’s dad, Ronald Brand, in 1969 but the couple later divorced.
Brand is her only child, and as mentioned above, the pair have always shared a close relationship.
When was Barbara the victim of a hit-and-run accident?
On April 26, 2018, The Sun revealed that Barbara had been involved in a serious car accident while on her way to babysit at the star’s home.
The then 71-year-old was in the back of a chauffeur-driven Audi A8 when it crashed with a Vauxhall Astra.
Its driver fled after getting into another car.
A witness, who gave first aid, said: “The Astra came round the corner and lost control. It went straight into the Audi.
“The chauffeur got out and fell. Russell’s mum was trapped. She had a seatbelt across her chest. She was in pain and people got her out.
“She was in a bad way, lying on a stretcher. She had blood coming from her nose and on the back of her head. We were talking to her, trying to keep her with it.”
In April 2018, Brand released a video stating that he would be cancelling the remaining dates of his Rebirth tour following Barbara's accident.
In a video posted to social media, Brand said: "My mum's been in a really serious road accident and has sustained what are being called "polytraumatic injuries", that means numerous, life-threatening injuries.
"I can't imagine performing at the moment," he continued.
"I feel too sad and too connected to this. I apologise but obviously, it's circumstances beyond my control."
Speaking on Loose Women in May of that year, the Get Him To The Greek star opened up about the extent of his mum's injuries.
When asked about her recovery he said: "She’s done amazing. She had this terrible car crash.
"The geezer in the other motor legged it.
"She had a broken back, broken neck, eight ribs, she’s made an incredible recovery."
What has Russell said about Barbara's cancer battle?
In October 2017, Brand revealed that Barbara was battling cancer for the sixth time.
The comedian and actor shared the news about his mother's diagnosis during an interview with US journalist Megyn Kelly.
At the time he didn't share any details about the specific type of cancer.
Barbara has previously survived uterine cancer when Brand was just eight-years-old and has also had breast cancer.
