The upside-down smiley face emoji was released in Apple emojis in 2015.

However, Google released their own version in 2008 and it has been around ever since.

That year they released nearly 80 bright and blocky emojis on Gmail.

Emojis started in Japan but became used all over the world when Apple added an official emoji keyboard to iOS in 2011 and Android then followed in their footsteps several years later.

Since then, many new emojis have been added to people's phones - with some new ones being added in 2023 including a shaking face, a goose, a hyacinth, and a plain pink heart.
