New Morgan Aero GT sportscar rolls off production line – and 170mph time warp motor is straight out the 1960s

Built exactly to order, the powerful Morgan Aero GT pays tribute to a classic 1960s British model - and it's price tag isn't as much as you might think

THE first of an exclusive line of custom-made £144,000 sportscars from Morgan has rolled off the production line - and it is a complete blast from the past.

The Aero GT, revealed at the recent Geneva Motor Show, is the most extreme road-ready Morgan and is capable of 170mph.

The first of just eight of the sportscars has been produced in brilliant Miami Blue, and it will feature on the showroom floor in Scotland's only official Morgan dealer, Revolutions.

Each of the Aero GT models will be made to order, ensuring no two are the same.

According to Morgan, the production of the final GT model will also mark the end of their Aero 8 series, which has been popular with UK petrolheads since 2001.

Fitted with the same V8 engine as its predecessor, the GT is capable of 367bhp, allowing it to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds.

The interior is hand-finished, and also features the option of wood panelling.

The latest model from the British manufacturer draws striking similarities to the classic Morgan Plus 8 of the 1960s.

Released in celebration of 50 years since the first of the hand-crafted cars rolled out of the factory, the latest model shares the same long front-end, compact cabin and steep wheel arches.

And while the hand-built models certainly aren't cheap, their price tag isn't too ridiculous considering their limited edition.

Morgan has given each car a starting price of £144,000 - but that can increase depending on how the owner has it customised.

Steve Morris, managing director at Morgan, said:“Every Morgan is built to an exacting specification and is bespoke to each customer and the first Aero GT off the production line looks superb in every way.

"It was a pleasure to reveal the car to the world just a few weeks ago, to see the first car leave the factory is an honour and I know the new owner will be delighted when they take delivery.”
