These Mini Mince Pies feature our homemade mincemeat recipe that is chock full of apples, raisins, dried fruit, spices, and a splash of alcohol. A delicious version of this classic holiday pie!

These Mini Mince Pies are made in loving memory of our father who loved Mincemeat.  It is the only dessert he wanted on both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We always made a pie for him and sometimes he and I were the only ones that ate it.  Laurie always teased him that she would not eat a dessert with meat in it and he would get fake-mad every year as he explained that there was no meat in mincemeat only fruit and wonderful fall flavors. Made with our Homemade Mincemeat, these miniature versions of Tradition Mincemeat Pies are one thousand times better than the ones made with the stuff from the jars.  If you have a Mince lover in your family, this is the recipe for you!

Ingredients You Will Need

All the ingredients you will need to make Mini Mince Pies including mincemeat, pie crust, muffin tin and a round cookie cutter.

Preparing the Mincemeat

Step 1: For most of our lives, the Mince Pies we baked/ate were made with Mincemeat from a jar.  You poured the jar of Mince into the pie crust and stuck it in the oven. Easy Peasy.  And it tasted good.  We didn’t know enough to complain.  Now we do.  We have learned how to make Homemade Mincemeat and we will never make another pie from store-bought Mince again.  Chock full of apples, raisins, dried fruit, spices, and a splash of alcohol, it is a little bit of Fall in every single bite. You can find our Homemade Mincemeat Recipe here. Go make it … you won’t be sorry! Once it is cooked, you’ll need to let it cool for at least 30-45 minutes before you start assembling your pies.

Assembling the Mini Pies

Step 2: Once the Mincemeat is cool, make your Pie Crust. You can use the pie crust sheets that are in the frozen section of the grocery store or you can make your own from scratch. You can find our Homemade Pie Crust recipe here. Roll out the pie crust. Traditional Mincemeat Pies are more like tarts … or Mini Pies so we made them in our Cupcake tin.  Cut out circles that will fit into your muffin/cupcake tin.  We used a 2 1/2″ biscuit cutter but we have used the rim of a coffee cup in the past. 
Step 3: Press the pie crust circles into the muffin/cupcake tin.
Step 4: Brush a whisked egg white onto the inside of the mini pies. This will help keep the mincemeat from soaking into the pie crust.
Step 5: Fill the crust with the Homemade Mincemeat.

Step 6: Cut out stars from the Pie Crust and cover the mincemeat with the pie crust decoration.
Step 7: Brush a whisked egg yolk over the stars.

Steps 8-9: Bake in an oven pre-heated to 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until the pie crust is golden brown.

Expert Tips and FAQ’s

Is there Meat in Mincemeat Pie?

No! There are some recipes that still use meat but most contemporary recipes leave it out. Our Mincemeat recipe is made of Apples, Raisins, Other Dried Fruits, Fall Spices and usually a splash of Brandy and Rum.

Should I use Homemade Mincemeat or Storebought Mincemeat?

You of course can use canned Mince in these pies but you should try our Homemade Mincemeat Recipe at least once.  It is really, really good.

How do you serve Traditional Mincemeat Pie?

Mincemeat Pies taste best at room temperature with a dollop of Whipped Cream or Vanilla Ice Cream.  Yum!

How to store/freeze?

Store the left-over mini pies in the refrigerator. They should last a couple of days.

  1. Make a batch of our Homemade Mincemeat and allow it to cool.
  2. Once the Mincemeat is cool, make your Pie Crust.  You can find our recipe here.
  3. Roll out the pie crust. (You'll want it on the thin side.)
  4. Cut out circles that will fit into your muffin/cupcake tin.  We used a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter.
  5. Press the pie crust circles into the muffin/cupcake tin.
