Skin Problems In Dogs : Demodectic Mange
At my veterinary practice, one of the most common skin conditions found in young dogs is Demodectic mange.
Demodectic mange is produced by a microscopic skin parasite called Demodex. This mite is found in small numbers in the hair follicles of all mammals, including us humans.
In the dog, the mites (Demodex canis) are passed from the dam to the puppy during the first few days of life.
For the treatment of this kind of mange I recommend the use of the Bravecto and Nexgard. Both products are oral flea and tick medications available at your local veterinary hospital.
Usually, two oral doses of Bravecto given three months apart are needed for the complete resolution of this skin condition.
Two consecutive doses of Nexgard given one month apart provide excellent results for the treatment of this skin condition.
