RMEEPB93–Irena Sendler (1910-2008) who saved nearly 2500 Jewish children from the Nazis by helping create false documentation and smuggling them out of the Jewish Ghetto in Warsaw. Tortured by the Gestapo when arrested in 1943 Irena Sendler never betrayed her comrades and was sentenced to death, escaping with the aid of the Żegota (Polish Council to Aid Jews).
